I’m all about celebrating special occasions, especially when it’s to celebrate love. As a family with small kids we don’t really get enough opportunities to celebrate our relationship and it’s always wonderful to make a stop in our hectic lives to spend together and enjoy ourselves.
My girls are now 1 and 4 and our oldest knows all about Valentine’s day and wanted to have a Valentine’s day party. We decided that we would celebrate this day, honor our family and talk about love. Our plan: have a kid-friendly Valentine’s day dinner – with dessert included, of course, and then spend some time together after the kids go to bed.
I took the girls shopping for Valentine’s day decoration and then we went to Whole Foods Market to buy the food. I love shopping at Whole Foods Market because they carry a huge selection of organic, have foods you can’t really find anywhere else and their made in store foods are so tasty – that’s why I partnered with them for this post.
I checked out their Valentine’s day promos and was shocked to see the ribeye steak and lobster tails on sale. When I asked my husband if he wanted to have a surf and turf dinner he got so excited (we don’t usually have fancy meals like that).
Check out the deals here because I think you might have to get your shopping done at Whole Foods Market before the deals are over:
We ended up getting several steaks and lobster tails to freeze for another day. At that price, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Valentine’s Day dinner set up:
It is so easy to set up your table for the special occasion. We got heart shape stickers, mason jars, fake candles (to avoid accidents), heart shape chocolates, a big heart and of course roses. Whole Foods Market has on sale their Double Dozen Roses so we ended up getting those. We made a small arrangement for the girls and a bigger one for our table.
To set-up your table for this special occasion just spread out all your Valentine’s day decorations. The heart shaped chocolates look really cute and they’re made with fare trade cacao.
Valentine’s day Surf and Turf dinner:
Would you believe if I told you I have never cooked lobster tails, that is, until now. I am shocked at how easy this was to cook. Plus it’s so tasty we’re having lobster again this weekend.
To cook the lobster tails: boil hot water in a pan, put the lobster tails in it for a few minutes. The lobster tails will turn red and the meat inside will look white once they’re read. Then, in a frying pan add lots of butter and garlic, put the lobster tails in the pan and let them cook on your lowest setting so they soak up the flavor. They will taste amazing!
Cook the ribeye steak – sprinkle it with salt and pepper and cook it in a cast iron pan with butter. We can’t have a meal without veggies so don’t forget to grab your favorite vegetables to go along with this meal! We ended up cooking asparagus and potatoes since my girls love those veggies.
Since we were celebrating with the kids we ended up getting organic sparkling cider.
Tip: If your kid is a picky eater, get the pepperoni heart shaped pizza.
While we waited for the food to be ready we ate cheese, olives and tiny pickles (cornichon pickles). You can buy these in bulk at Whole Foods Market.
Our dinner took so little to prep and it tasted amazing! It makes me realize cooking surf and turf meals is a lot faster than I thought and we will be having it more often.
Now on the best part, dessert!
Valentine’s Day dessert:
Whole Foods Market has a lot of pretty heart cakes on sale as well as beautiful chocolate boxes filled with organic chocolate. I ended up getting both because I have a sweet tooth but we decided to save the chocolate box for later and just had the cake.
I’ve always loved their bakery! It’s the only supermarket where I’ve found tasty desserts that don’t like just like sugar and coloring. The heart shape caked was as delicious as I expected it to be.
Valentine’s day gift ideas:
I know chocolate and flowers sounds a little cliché but I personally don’t get gifts like this often so I absolutely love getting them for Valentine’s day. There is so much to chose from and most of it is on sale!
How beautiful is this? Pretty roses and organic truffles are a match made in heaven!
We got a beautiful chocolate box with organic chocolate truffles for the girl’s grandmother.
